Chapter 2 Adam and Laura's wedding

On September 16, 2017, my nephew, Adam and his lovely bride, Laura, were married at Spring Point on the Southern Maine Community College campus.    The day began as foggy but at 1 pm, the clouds cleared and the sun came out.  Tour boats, sail boats, cruisers and other water craft began to appear in the distance. Promptly at 2 pm the ceremony began.

Adam and Laura knew each other as teenagers but only as acquaintances.  Laura's brother was on the same swim team as Adam.  Some years later, Adam and Laura met again at Laura's brother's wedding and  began to realize they had much in common.  They began dating about 7 years ago and today, they will seal their relationship forever.

The initial construction at Fort Preble was part of the Second System of US fortifications. It was a star fort made of stone, brick, and sod, with 14 heavy guns including two 50-pounder (7.25-inch, 184 mm) Columbiads.[1] The fort is described in the Secretary of War's report for December 1811 as "an enclosed star fort of masonry, with a circular battery with flanks; mounting 14 heavy guns (with) barracks for one company" Secretary of War Henry Dearborn authorized construction of Fort Preble in 1808 with his son, Massachusetts Militia officer and future general Henry A. S. Dearborn, supervising the construction. The fort was named in honor of Commodore Edward Preble, who led a squadron of American warships during the Barbary Wars. Preble died in Portland in 1807 and is buried there.

Happy Hour musicians.

Former Methodist church sanctuary now a reception venue.  The food was superb!

We were hesitant to try and drive our "petite flower", the Dodge, to the downtown South Portland location of the reception, an area we didn't know at all. One of my teacher friends lives by and offered to "Uber" us around so we took her up on it. We drove the truck to her house and parked it there. Thank you, Mary Ellen for being our chauffeur!

the table centerpieces.

The wedding party is announced: parents of the groom, Merrill and Dottie Boynton with grandson, Chance Boynton, son of Adam's brother, Bryce.

It was a magical day without a hitch.  We wish Adam and Laura all the best things in their marriage!
