Turning Day-Heading West on October 4

We couldn't put it off any longer....we loaded up, hitched up and got underway for Farmington, to say good bye to Sonny's family and friends.

I asked my brother if I could take a few pines and oaks out to our place. He has 50 acres so he could spare a few. He came by with 2 five gallon buckets fill with trees. The taller ones are taking a beating in the wind.

We planned to stop at Starbucks in Waterville for our coffee break.  Sonny and I lived there many years ago but things have changed.  We could see the Starbucks sign so we turned onto a road that turned out to be the bank drive through, not the road to Starbucks.  Sonny tried to back up but cars had begun to line up behind us. We had no choice but to go forward under the sign that said our rig was taller than the building eaves.  As we drove  past the  window, the teller told us the TV antenna was hanging off to the side.  Once we got to the parking lot, Sonny got the ladder out and climbed up on the roof to check the damage.  Luckily, the air conditioner unit and vents were only scratched.
This is the view from Voter Hill, Farmington, Sonny's home town.

Looking towards Farmington where I went to college, from Voter Hill. The white  line is round bales of hay.  We call them "marshmellows

".

Sonny cleaning his parent's grave sites.

One of my first students when I taught 3rd grade connected with me recently on Facebook.  He doesn't live very far away from Farmington so we met for dinner together with his daughter.  The last time I saw Larry was at our wedding in 1979 so it was nice to get caught up.  He has had many successes which I was happy to hear about.

View from Sonny's aunt's house in New Sharon, ME.  There is some color in the trees but it is slow coming.

Toll House pie is my favorite. Maine seems to be the only place I can score this kind of pie.

Sonny and his buddy, Bill, at our campsite in "Troll Village".  Bill came by Friday morning to say goodbye. Earlier, Sonny's nephew came by to say hello.

On our way West into the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  Color is  beginning to show.
