Day 17 Sept 10th Hyde Park and the Roosevelt home

We stayed a second night at the Newberg KOA. Today,  we had breakfast at the Cracker Barrel before driving out to Hyde Park and touring the Roosevelt homes.  The road was lined in places with stone walls.  After learning about the Roosevelt family, we  visited Orange County Choppers, home of creative and imaginative motorcycle builders.

Rock walls along the country road.

Roosevelt's study

This huge pine tree had a fascinating array of
branches. Might have been a good
climbing tree.

Roosevelt's bedroom in the 17 room mansion.

I thought the dining room was rather small for the
size of the family.

Small children's chairs in front of the fireplace.

The house began with just the mid section.  The two wings were added making 17 rooms.  The third floor had a room big enough for the children to ride their bikes.

We spent some time in Roosevelt's museum. On display is an elaborate model ship collection; speeches he made; his convertible and events of the world during his tenure.  Eleanor's advocacy work for children and families was also
noted there.

Outside, we walked the grounds and
admired the colorful gardens.

We passed Orange County Choppers' garage  on our way back to camp so we stopped off to check it out.  I was sure this group was in LA, not in small town New York State. They build specialty bikes and had a few on display.

The fine print tells the story if you have the eyes to
read the tiny words.

I especially liked  this shiny little 4 wheeler.

These bikes are only built for looks, not in any
way for a comfortable ride.
